Passing South through the Carson Gap brings us out of the Lake Tahoe Basin.

Prior to this point the Pacific Crest, Tahoe to Yosemite, and Tahoe Rim Trails have all run South  together to the Carson Gap from just North of Velma Lake. They have run together around the Southwest side of Lake Tahoe through the Desolation Wilderness, and part of the Meiss Roadless Area.

Tahoe to Yosemite Trail from Meeks Bay to Echo Summit: 30.71 miles.

Echo Summit to Carson Gap: 10.61 miles

This puts the total distance from Meeks Bay to Lake Alpine at 66.12 miles.

In the Meiss Roadless Area the Tahoe Rim Trail turned Northeast at the Round Top-Big Meadow Trail junction. Just a short ways further South of the Round Lake trail junction the Tahoe to Yosemite and Pacific Crest Trails first part ways on the South side of the Carson Gap.

Carson Gap trail junction

Just a few feet South of, and below the Carson Gap is the first, and the  Northernmost of the three junctions between Tahoe to Yosemite and Pacific Crest Trails.

You can find all the mileages for the trail options up to Round Top Lake from the Pacific Crest Trail, and the distance from the Round Top Lake trail junction to Lake Alpine.

This page is set up for your impressions about the mileage and elevation figures from  Carson Gap to Lake Alpine.

As there is not a maintained route between the Summit City Creek trail junction and Camp Irene within this section of trail, different hikers may have different experiences and impressions about these distances.

These mileage and elevation figures are located on miles and elevations page:

Your other option is to continue South on the Pacific Crest Trail through Carson Pass down to Ebbetts Pass.
