Muir Ranch Backpacker Resupply

Muir Ranch is one of my favorite resupply spots. This is in large part due to the low-key hospitality of Pat Gray.

Pat runs the backpacker resupply service. In the last ten years Muir Ranch has built a new shed to store the resupply packages, and completely turned around their previously backpacker-unfriendly attitude.

Pat was not unfriendly prior to this time, but the attitude at Muir was clear:

In past years their policy was, "get your resupply and get the hell out."

That changed when Muir Ranch came to realise that many passing backpackers on the JMT are fairly rich, can afford their expensive retreat, and will likely fill up a lot of their empty cabins during the Summer Season.

Available Dates

Thus Muir Ranch began offering cabins to passing backpackers, which signaled a turn-around in how all backpackers are treated.

Pat and the other lady out there then began setting up a "backpacker's store" during Summer. They take the abandoned food containers and lay out an extensive selection of breakfast, lunch, and dinner foods under a sun shade, all free to passing backpackers.

That is very nice indeed!

This (2015) year the Muir Ranch backpacker resupply page is a "placeholder" as of March 1.

Muir Ranch Backpacker Resupply Specifics

Last year Muir began offering resupply package service delivery on the trail on June 24. That means I would plan on mailing my resupply by Mid-May. Keep an eye on the link above for more details as the season progresses.

I anticipate all resupply spots will open early due to the almost complete lack of Sierra snowpack, if present trends continue.
