Precision Analysis of Cow Farts, Farting
More than you ever wanted to know about methane...

Uncertainty surrounds US livestock methane emission estimates,
PENN STATE, November 30, 2017.

A Very Detailed Analysis of US Livestock Methane Emissions.

"Methane emissions from livestock operations are the result of microbial fermentation and methanogenesis in the forestomach of ruminants and similar fermentation processes in manure from both ruminant and non-ruminant farm animals."

Ascertain if "top-down" EPA estimates are understating agricultural emissions by up to 90%.

"If methane emissions from livestock in this country really are twice as high as what is estimated now -- and we don't believe they are..."

Composition of US Methane Emissions

40 percent: natural gas, petroleum systems and coal mining

36 percent: livestock

18 percent: landfills

U.S. livestock methane emissions

19.6 billion pounds per year, according to the above study.

"...the research... yielded total U.S. livestock methane emissions of 19.6 billion pounds per year. However, uncertainty surrounding that total is high, researchers acknowledged."

"Our analysis showed that the EPA's estimates are close to reality, but there is a discrepancy in the spatial distribution of emissions."

Can anybody figure out how many billion pounds this is, to compare with the study above?
