Globe's Greatest Glaciers Going Away Quick

Almost half of World Heritage sites could lose their glaciers by 2100,
American Geophysical Union, April 30, 2019.

"Glaciers are set to disappear completely from almost half of World Heritage sites if business-as-usual emissions continue..."

At Risk
"...some of the world's most iconic glaciers, such as the Grosser Aletschgletscher in the Swiss Alps, Khumbu Glacier in the Himalayas and Greenland's Jakobshavn Isbrae."

"Emission Scenarios"

"...glacier extinction by 2100 under a high emission scenario in 21 of the 46 natural World Heritage sites where glaciers are currently found."

"...eight of the 46 World Heritage sites will be ice-free by 2100."

Range of Ice Loss
"...33 percent to 60 percent of the total ice volume present in 2017 will be lost by 2100, depending on the emission scenario."

"Los Glaciares National Park in Argentina contains some of the largest glaciers on Earth and a very large ice loss - about 60 percent of the current volume - is predicted by 2100 within this site."

"In North America, Waterton Glacier International Peace Park, Canadian Rocky Mountain Parks and Olympic National Park could also lose more than 70 percent of their current glacier ice by 2100, even under drastically lowered carbon dioxide emissions."

South West New Zealand
"...projected to lose 25 percent to 80 percent of the current ice volume over the course of this century."

"To preserve these iconic glaciers found in World Heritage sites, we urgently need to see significant cuts in greenhouse gas emissions. This is the only way of avoiding long-lasting and irreversible glacier decline and the related major natural, social, economic and migratory cascading consequences."

Bottom Line

Much climate research is predicated by the forelorn statement about the variable potential results of their research, "if we continue as we are," compared to, "if we meet climate goals," without ever admitting that our, "current program of meeting climate goals," includes the virtually unrestricted production of CO2 by China & India, and the massive expansion of first world country's populations, which make reaching any, "climate goals," let alone preserving anything of our traditional climate and ecosystems highly unlikely.

Paris Pact: Goals Not Obtainable under Current Endless Global Growth Model

More & More
"We," being the population of this planet, and our consumption of energy, are both growing as quickly as they possibly can be grown.
We can see this already irresponsible growth, the growth that brought us to our current problamatic ecological, economic, and social configurations, are all being supported and encouraged by as much fiscal, psychological, and propagandistic stimulus and support for endless unimpeded population growth as our corporate elite can possibly marshal.

Real American Environmentalism
End All Growth
Zero population growth. Zero imports from countries without the best pollution and environmental controls. We must attain physical balance, only growing in wealth and wisdom, not growing endless people and endless consumption.
Thus these various global, "accords & pacts," are supremely irresponsible, as they do not address the fundamental, growing sources and causes of our unbalanced climate, that being the combined effects of massive migration combined with, "globalism's," moving the world's manufacturing to completely environmentally unregulated manufacturing centers. Our programs of endless irresponsible growth epitomize the forces of unrestricted greed that have so badly damaged our planet.

Responsible Environmentalism
Any responsible environmental policy begins with ending those two main sources and ongoing causes of our rapidly expanding environmental imbalances.

One Choice
So no, "growth," is not going to stop until they, our corporate elite and their minions, have sucked all the wealth out of this planet and its populations, or they've been stopped from doing that.

Cycles of
We seem to be stuck in an endless growth, "cycle of stupid," that will continue growing until it finally breaks, "internally," by breaking our economy and society, or externally, by breaking the climate & ecology of our planet. It's a race!

Bottom Line

Climate Model
Climate models cannot keep up with our rate of CO2 production,
and its associated rates of climate and ecosystem degradation.

Support Tahoe to Whitney

The Tahoe to Whitney Trail Guide and Magazine are walked, written, funded, and supported by my efforts, with the help of kindred spirits and my sister.

We offer valuable Trail Guide, Skills, Weather, News and Analysis.

My goal is to get you out to see your natural and social potential. Help me keep this unique resource accessible and expanding towards its potential. We've a lot of miles to cover ahead...

If you feel these efforts are valuable, I'm cordially inviting you to support them, here:

I am currently working towards publishing the completed guide between Tahoe & Yosemite as an e-book, while converting this "blog" to a fine magazine format. You will like the results! Help Tahoe to Whitney reach its potential!
