Tree Mortality Momentum Carries On

Dead trees in Golden State: 27 million more killed in past year,
Union Democrat, December 11, 2017.

The first Tree News published on this site from May 19th, 2015, was about tree mortality. By mid-Summer of 2016, we could see that the scale of High Sierra forest destruction was beyond vast, and required decisive action.

We can see now that the level of current changes, when combined with the trend line of accelerating changes in the weather, the ongoing warming, already spell doom for the traditional forest and meadow ecology of the Sierra, independent of the green lies we are told and tell ourselves.

We could stop our expansion of consumption right now, and stop expanding the filth of Chinese manufacturing right now, we could stop our massive demographic expansion right now, and the forests will continue to burn for decades.

We have not even begun to pay the price for our past and current depredations, as we surge forward under the same banner of endless growth that has already devastated our ecosystems.

Our current level of production, consumption, and pollution are more than sufficient to rapidly devastate the web of life on this planet, without growing them one bit larger. But, we are expanding as quickly as we possibly can.
