This is your page for questions and comments on the Hiking Trip Plan for heading South out of the South Upper Truckee trailhead in Meyers.
How our hiking plan works out depends on if we are hiking the Pacific Crest Trail or the Tahoe to Yosemite Trail  South once we hike out of the Tahoe Basin through the Carson Gap.

From the Meiss Cabin junction these famous trails are unified for a short distance South, until we reach the Carson Gap. Then they split apart on their respective routes South down the East and West flanks of the Sierra.

The location of our second night's campsite out of the South Upper Truckee Trailhead will depend on which route we are hiking.
If we are heading South on the Tahoe to Yosemite Trail, I will want to camp at Round Top Lake in the Carson Pass Management Area. That's the best nearby campsite on any of the local trails.
If we are hiking South on the Pacific Crest Trail we have options stretching from Lost Lakes above the Northern Upper Blue Lake down to Tamarack Lake a bit South of the Blue Lakes Road, depending on how we feel.

These maps lay out our Southbound hiking options

Carson Pass Region Hiking Map

Carson Pass to Blue Lakes on the PCT

Summit City Creek to Mount Reba on the TYT

PCT Miles South

Carson Pass to Ebbetts Pass Backpacking Miles

TYT Miles South

Carson Gap to Lake Alpine Backpacking Miles

Check out the hiking plan on the trail guide for more information including links to topo maps, miles and elevations, and trail guide pages for information that short and long distance backpackers will need about both trails South.

Check out the hiking Plan out of the Meeks Bay trailhead on the Tahoe to Yosemite Trail.
