Global Warming Killing Phytoplankton

Breaking the Planatary Engines of Life

Key biological mechanism is disrupted by ocean acidification,
University of California - San Diego, March 14, 2018.

Threat to the Foundation of Life

"...the excess carbon dioxide added to the atmosphere through the combustion of fossil fuels interferes with the health of phytoplankton which form the base of marine food webs."

Breaking the Planatary Engines of Life

"...phytoplankton to acquire iron has a requirement for carbonate ions."

"Ocean acidification is poised to decrease the concentration of sea surface carbonate ions 50 percent by the end of this century."

How to Kill the Sophistication of Your Planet

"..show a direct connection between the effects of ocean acidification and the health of phytoplankton at the base of the marine food chain."

Another Feedback Loop of Doom

"...high concentrations of atmospheric CO2 could decrease phytoplankton growth, restricting the ability of the ocean to absorb CO2 and thus leading to ever higher concentrations of CO2 accumulating in the atmosphere."

"While the negative influence of acidification on corals and shellfish is known, this is the first study to reveal a mechanism that affects life which forms the base of most marine food webs."

Now we will have an idea of what happened, when big chunks of the ocean's food chains collapse.

Phytoplankton and zooplankton biomass will decrease 6 percent and 11 percent by 2100 due to climate change (from a different cause than identified in the research above)

Support Tahoe to Whitney

The Tahoe to Whitney Trail Guide and Magazine are walked, written, funded, and supported by my efforts, with the help of kindred spirits and my sister.

We offer valuable Trail Guide, Skills, Weather, News and Analysis.

My goal is to get you out to see your natural and social potential. Help me keep this unique resource accessible and expanding towards its potential. We've a lot of miles to cover ahead...

I NEED HELP!
If you feel these efforts are valuable, I'm cordially inviting you to support them, here:

I am currently working towards publishing the completed guide between Tahoe & Yosemite as an e-book, while converting this "blog" to a fine magazine format. You will like the results! Help Tahoe to Whitney reach its potential!
