Tracking Snow Conditions

Let's compare the past three Summer seasons, over which we've watched both the driest and wettest years seen in all recorded human history happen within two years of each other.

Those extreme seasons are pretty good "bookends" of the most extreme dry and most extreme wet conditions we could possibly experience. 2015 and 2018 are examples of the earliest and latest starts for Summer trail conditions developing along the Sierra Crest. There was snow on the crest through the Summer of 2017. There was little snow on the Sierra Crest during the Spring of 2015.

Hottest then Driest Years Ever over Two Years

This Year

2018 sits in the middle of these extremes, giving us hints about when the Spring Thaw runoff will receed, and the high trails clear of snow in 2018.
