Above Wapama Falls?

Missing Hiker Found Safe In Yosemite National Park,
Yosemite, NPS, February 23, 2018.

This is a curious case. On one side of the analysis, we find a hiker with the proper gear and supplies able to hunker-down and survive in emergency conditions.  Not just emergency conditions, but during a stretch of ultra-cold temps. That's good gear planning.

On the other side of this analysis we have the curious facts that he was found above Wapama Falls, and had minor injuries. First, what the hell was he doing above Wapama Falls? This does not seem to be part of a logical route. Curious. Was this a reasonable plan?

Second, "minor" injuries? He hunkerd-down in a remote area with minor injuries? Seriously, I have executed a number of self-rescues with major injuries during Summer and Winter. This appears to be a serious case of bad decision-making.

So, my questions point directly to the plans and operations of this hiker. Number One, What was the plan that put you above Wapama Falls? Was it a well thought-out plan for your level of skills and experience? Number Two, Why did operations cease atop Wapama Falls, when one had, "minor" injuries?

Was the trip plan sound? The basic facts of this rescue leave a lot of questions unanswered.

This guy should pay for the search and rescue if this was as bone-headed of a self-created crisis, as it appears to be...
