Nuclear Winter Would Threaten Nearly Everyone on Earth,
Rutgers University, August 28, 2019.

MAIN POINTS

Modern Modeling
"...modern climate model to simulate the climatic effects of an all-out nuclear war between the United States and Russia."

End of Summer
"If the United States and Russia waged an all-out nuclear war, much of the land in the Northern Hemisphere would be below freezing in the summertime, with the growing season slashed by nearly 90 percent in some areas..."

Two Hundred Year Storm-Floods in Three Years?!

Tropical Storm Imelda & Hurricane Harvey

Two Reports Second

First

Tropical Storm Imelda's flooding turns deadly as southeast Texas is swamped by rain,
Texas Tribune, September 19, 2019.

MAIN POINTS

Imelda vs. Harvey
"It dropped more than 41 inches in some areas, compared with Harvey's highest rainfall total of 60.8 inches."

"...Interstate 10 was closed because of flooding."

“I’ve seen water over rooftops,...I’ve seen vehicles stalled out. Man, it’s kind of like the Harvey deal all over again.”

"Many parts of Houston and southeast Texas still have not fully recovered from Harvey. And areas that didn’t flood in that catastrophic storm were hit hard by Imelda."

2019 Climate Change News

The transitions between seasons, their basic character, their timing, temp, and humidity transitions have all changed. The directions from which the seasonal winds blow have changed. These changes are reverberating through and disrupting webs of life that wrap around the whole planet.

Blooming, feeding, mating, and migration patterns of all living things are changing around the world.

Here we track the obvious and the subtle human affects on Nature. The club and the knife, if you will.

The Fundamental Nature of Reality Big to Small...

We follow Astro-physics and Science News for fun, because the Nature of Life itself is pretty darn entertaining on its own merits. Understanding the Nature and construction of our reality is a pragmatic move for all its "operators," but especially for backpacker's finding context in, and navigating the terrain to both ascertain & clarify our place in the Universe.

This is the amazing universe we are walking through.

Interestingly enough, we have to understand the fundamental nature of the motions & relationships within the Universe around us to find our precise position on this Earth, to understand our context within its Nature, and how we can or cannot fit perfectly into the greater Universe around us.

We follow science to better understand ourselves, what we are hiking through, and our choices along our journey.

Our goal here is to provide the best information how to deal with internal and external threats to your health. But why?

FIELD GRADE
Our greater goal is to attain "Field Conditioning." Field Conditioning is an advanced state of fitness where we are capable of moving and operating effectively across great distances over all types of terrain, at high or low altitude, in hot, cold, wet, or dry conditions over extended time spans, under all seasonal conditions, while carrying the weight required to withstand these environmental conditions, feed ourselves well, and safely reach our goal.

 INTRODUCTION
Nature is no longer in charge. There's a new sheriff in town, and he's a real piece of work. In any case, the greedy motivations of man have replaced the driving fertility of Nature as the leading force on this planet, and even the scientists have noticed. Which means it needs a name...

Done. I already named it, when I recognized the depth of our nasty effects a long time ago: The Scum-o-cene. We are leaving the spiritual and physical equivilant of a nasty bathtub ring on the Spirit and Body of Nature as humanity, "consumes" both.

I abhor and reject identification as a, "consumer."

Check out these next introductory articles, then we follow the general outlines of our re-modeling of this world.

New Feedback Phenomenon Found to Drive Increasing Drought and Aridity

ECO-CRASHING NEWS: LAND-ATMOSPHERIC PROCESSES

Finding an Extreme Land-Atmospheric Feedback Loop

New Feedback Phenomenon Found to Drive Increasing Drought and Aridity,
Columbia University School of Engineering and Applied Science, September 2, 2019.

MAIN POINTS

A Drier Future
"...study indicates that the world will experience more frequent and more extreme drought and aridity than currently experienced in the coming century, exacerbated by both climate change and land-atmosphere processes."

Land-Atmosphere Processes
"Concurrent soil drought and atmospheric aridity is a time period when soil moisture is extremely low and vapor pressure deficit is extremely high."

"The researchers demonstrate that concurrent soil drought and atmospheric aridity are largely driven by a series of land-atmosphere processes and feedback loops."

Climate is Changing Faster than Animal Adaptation,
Cornell University, August 20, 2019.

MAIN POINTS

"Birds and other animals cannot adapt fast enough to keep pace with climate change, throwing species survival in doubt."

"Our research focused on birds because complete data on other groups were scarce."

"...reviewed more than 10,000 published climate change studies..."

Phrenological Shift
"We demonstrate that in temperate regions, the rising temperatures are associated with a shift in the timing of biological events to earlier dates."

Growing into Destruction: The Diminished, and Diminishing Western US Snow Packs

CRASHING OUR OWN ECOSYSTEMS

"California Consumers" Formed Themselves into Nature-Killing Kamikaze Weapon

Back-to-Back Low Snow Years will Become more Common, study projects,
American Geophysical Union, August 8, 2019.

MAIN POINTS

Already Happening
"Consecutive low snow years may become six times more common across the Western United States over the latter half of this century, leading to ecological and economic challenges such as expanded fire seasons and poor snow conditions at ski resorts."

Get Used to It
"Across the West, we're generally losing a lot of our snowpack - in many places, low snow conditions will be increasingly consistent from year to year."

Destroying Our Natural Legacy
ALREADY Beyond Sustainable
"Every time we have a snow drought, we're delving into our water resources and the ecosystem's resources. We're drawing down on our savings without restocking the bank."

ECO-CRASHING NEWS: EL NINO & LA NINA

Weather Patterns Breaking Up

How the Pacific Ocean influences long-term drought in the Southwestern U.S.,
AGU Blog, August 5, 2019.

MAIN POINTS

The Rule
"The general rule of thumb had been that El Niño years — when the sea surface in a region off the coast of Peru is at least 1 degree Celsius warmer than average — tend to have more rainfall, and La Niña years, when that region is 1 degree Celsius cooler than average, tend to have less rain. But that simple rule of thumb doesn’t always hold true."
