Round Lake backdropped by the Round Lake Pinnacle.
Round Lake is a beautiful little lake surrounded by forest and granite rock, yet overlooking it is a massive volcanic pinnacle. This is emblematic of the split nature of the local terrain up Christmas Valley.
Our trail up to Round Lake crosses both granite and volcanic terrain along the interface between the two terrains.
Round Lake is accessable from the North from either the South Upper Truckee or the Big Meadow Trailheads. From the South, you can hike in from the Carson Pass. From the Northwest, you can walk down to Round Lake from Echo Summit via Showers Lake by taking a Left turn down the well-marked Tahoe Rim Trail junction near Meiss Cabin.
