Over one-third of California teens not getting gym classes at school, Sac Bee, June 1, 2011.

Nor are the kids getting art, music, or any solid foundation in math, science, or English. It's like our schools have become little more than free daycare for cheap illegal labor.

If you find you and your kids are getting fat and lazy, maybe it's time to begin a workout program. I'm building the Physical Preparation section of the trail guide to help you build up your fitness sufficient for long distance backpacking.

Start car camping with the family, build up your day hikes and backpacking gear, then bring the kids out for a couple of nights of backpacking.

Compliment these camping and backpacking experiences with regular walks and jogs at home, and you will have a frkn happy-healthy family.
