JUNE 2017

 DIGITAL DISASTER

I've lost
the
High Sierra Trail News
for the
Month of June.

 I believe I Overwrote It.
Arrrrrggggg

So many hours of work, so much information,  lost.

Recovery Efforts are Underway,
check back later for hundreds of news items and links that composed our coverage of this epic, record-setting June of 2017.
(But I'm an Idiot, so it's not here now...)

 The Situation

I have lost a vast amount of material.

I'm a Digital Idiot, among other ineptitudes.

Besides the brilliance of losing a full month's worth of news, I cannot recover it from my saved mysql db files (which do include a full version of this page, before I lost it) on my local host, from which I should be able to build a "sandboxed" version of this site, from which I could recover this page.

My problem is that I cannot get these saved db files to properly load in mysql, which means that I can't make them work on my sandboxed LAMP server.

CAN YOU HELP?

Apparently, the problem is that the version of my sandboxed LAMP server and its mysql is different, a later ver than used by my webhost. The later version of mysql in my sandbox will not "digest" the earlier ver number of my website's saved db files, without knowing enough of the mysql programming language to accomplish the translation.  This is not only a problem for recovery, for recovering this page, but it's a real impediment to the planned evolution of this stupid "blog" format into an articulate magazine format.

I am trying to set up a "sandbox" version of this "blog-style" site on my desktop LAMP to test transitioning from this shitty blog format to the magazine format.

So, not only can I not recover this June News page, but I cannot get mysql to read my latest saved dbs to set up a sandboxed version of this site to "dry run," to test the upcoming transition of this shitty "blog" format into a much nicer magazine format that will better layout all the components of this complex content.

I need to hit you with a shotgun blast of High Sierra News and Analysis.
I must! It will happen.

So, losing this page of June News has exposed a multi-faceted problem, which are essentially composed of all the aspects of my digital ignorance. In this case, my inability to deal with mysql in the LAMP server environment. It's like Greek to me...

Plus, I really need to prove I can restore my site, if it crashs, from my constantly saved db & and regularly-saved core files, which I cannot do at this time. That itself makes me very nervous.
Everything I have constructed in the past and hope to build upon into the future depends on resolving these mysql and LAMP problem.

Furthermore, As I mentioned above, I need to use this "sandbox" and sandboxed version of this site to make the transition to the Ultimate Magazine Format.

None of the content of this site was designed nor built to be presented through a "blog." Tahoe to Whitney Magazine was designed and structured to be a multi-faceted mechanism for observing, analyzing, and presenting issues across the wide range of aspects composing the High Sierra's Natural environment we backpack through.

Everything, the trail, the trees, the birds, bees, and even the social elements that  we hike through every year has a seasonal cycle, a cycle that either energizes, sustains, or diminishes each and every physical and biological aspect of our environment.

This upcoming format & presentation transition will allow this site to present the main line of each day's High Sierra News, like a modern news site, while breaking the news down into the various "sections" tracking each aspect of life in the Sierra. This blog format fails in that task.

Not only was the information contained on this June High Sierra News page a vital link in the seasonal chain of reporting on the evolution of our dysfunctional weather and seasonal transition patterns, this fine page of news also drew the social, political, and economic factors driving these brutal changes into clear focus.

I Need Help!

Can You Help?

I need someone that can make my sandboxed LAMP server read my site's old db files...

I figure there must be a few programmers & tech folks who've utilized the guide & forums,
let alone the burgeoning "magazine" efforts to defend the last shrinking islands of wilderness in the High Sierra.

Wanna Give Back?

Tahoe to Whitney Needs Help.

But, the fight really happens in LA, the Bay Area, DC, and every pit of population that's already sucking the Web of Life dry.

Either we shrink those megacities, or we drown our last islands of wilderness, under their snowballing effects.
