SEASONAL TRANSITION
Tracking the New Normal

Storm Gate Forming?

Rain Potential Increasing

The annual expansion and contraction of the fat, warm Equatorial Belt of Atmosphere around the center of our planet times seasonal changes.

Here that translates into the creeping retraction of the NE Pacific High with the onset of Fall into Winter. Well, it did at one time, but not so much now, as increased heating has shifted the timing and movement of this event to later in the season, and changed the very character of the air in the High itself.

This Summer the High has travelled so far North as to cut off the usually moist Northwestern United States of Washington and Oregon from their typically plentiful rainfall for a record length of time, resulting in record-breaking Summertime temps and dryness across the whole Pacific Northwest.

Yet even today we can still see, and even feel, traces of these ancient broken patterns in the failed expectations of the plants, birds, and fish. It looks and feels to me like our great sector of the planetary weather system has reached one of its ancient seasonal transition points.

If the weather changes with our changing astronomical position is another question!

At this same point in time the NE Pacific High is finally moving far enough South to allow the first rains into the NW US for 52 days. The question for the Sierra is, "Will the NE Pac High move far enough South to let in Storms from the Northwest sweep down across the Sierra at all this Winter?"

Will the big "blocking ridge," the same one driving our drought conditions through the last six drought Winters, finally drop South this Winter? I doubt it. Will the Arctic Circle "chill down" enough to assume its traditional role in North American Winter-weather formation? I doubt it.

A strong High in the Northeast Pacific is becoming common during Winter, as is a warm Arctic Circle. These are becoming "features" of our new, emerging weather pattern. Or they are steps along its path.

And, what about ocean temps across the Central Pacific... How are all these pieces going to come together?

Those are the questions that only our ongoing observations are going to answer!

We track all of these factors, except for Arctic conditions, on the High Sierra Weather Page.

Weather Change

The Tropical Plume bringing high heat and humidity to the West Coast and Sierra has mostly passed. The vast troughs that linked up to move this moisture North have unchained. The monsoonal flows are once again moving in their traditional patterns located South and East of California.
Mostly, as there is still a huge tropical plume sitting off Baja California, and it is not assured that the strange movements of vast parcels of High Pressure Air far to our North, which suck this tropical moisture North, have ended. But we are at least getting a slight reprieve.

I track the weather in our quadrant of the world most carefully. Yet each of the quadrants of world weather deeply affects one another. Behaviors and instabilities in one are typically seen in all, and all chained-up together with a degree of sophistication that escapes my observational depth, though I can see the outlines of these sopionships.

Godzilla of Tropical Plumes

Vast Tropical Plume Invades Western North America

The unusually strong cyclonic activity across the isthmus of panama during the last weeks created an Eastern Pacific Storm Generation Machine that churned out an amazing series of hurricanes and tropical storms.

Even after this storm generation phenomenon ceased, this unusual activity had moved tremendous amounts of tropical moisture North.

Track Recent Tropical Activity

Despite the mainstream media calling this weather "normal," it is not. We, being the Sierra, typically sits North of the edge of tropical moisture, only occassionally getting tropical remnants coming up from the monsoonal areas of South Texas and Arizona. Lost Angeles, being further South, would be subject to more tropical intrusions.

The increasing heat of the tropical oceans and atmosphere has expanded the bound of monsoonal tropical flows, and weather, and weather patterns far to the North of their traditional ranges.

OK, enough said about this, this introduction to yet another aspect of our "New Normal."

It's News if the Times Prints It.

A wet winter makes some California hikes more treacherous than usual,
Lost Angeles Times, August 2, 2017.

These safety issues and trail conditions were "the story" before all these people departed, before all these people got lost, injured, and killed by the crazy conditions in the Sierra Nevada this year.

The Times is "on it," after the threat has mostly passed.

I do not like the "LA-LA Land Times." California could do better without the 20 million idiots in Lost Angeles, and their corrupted media... much better.

RESCUE ATTEMPT?

Or just playing with the "deck chairs" on the Titanic?
It Depends
Let's Get Hopping...

Inoculation giving endangered California frog shot at life,
Tahoe Daily Tribune, August 30, 2017.

Our relentless irresponsible growth Kills Nature with one hand, while we are pretending to save it with the other. The hand of destruction is much more powerful than that of healing. Wise policies... if you want to feel good while doing bad things...

The only way to "save the frogs" is to take the Corporate Growth Machine of Death out of political power and control, to restore our basic democratic values and processes. The "corporates" will continue to successfully do everything in their power to strip Man & Nature of our resouces until we finally remove bribery as the factor determining who has the power to control our politicians, our political parties, and ultimately, the fate of our environment, and our country.

Health & Fitness

Eating triggers endorphin release in the brain,
University of Turku, August 28, 2017.

Again, science tells us what we already know, without making us any smarter. Let's apply this knowledge.

Guess what, Science? So does sex! So do many behaviors! We humans are like a piano of chemical drug-like "internal" responses, where striking each particular “key,” or behavioral-experience, causes a pain or pleasure response in our bio-chemical system.

It always falls onto our ethics and values to abstractly determine if our behavior in “triggering” each particular behavior-pleasure is appropriate.

Unless we live in a society where self-gratification is itself the “ethical” value. Then, in the case of food gratification, we end up with a lot of fat people, and in the case of sex, self-gratification as “ethics” creates a society full of perverts. Fat, Naked Greed is not an "ethic," it is simply desire.

My definition of pervert is a person who can or will not control their urges and desires, pursuing their own self-gratification at the expense of their own health and welfare, those of the folks they come in contact with, and society generally.

The "rationality" of consumer culture in our corporate state is the psychological machine that creates obese perverts. This is exactly what happens when a society lets pain and pleasure escape the restraints of Natural Balance and Fundamental Ethics, and greed takes over as its central ethic.

That's the difference between licence and liberty. Licence never restrains itself, while liberty first requires self-restraint, then the restraint of those that gratify themselves at the expense of others. Liberty is mutual, or does not exist. Obese perverts consume it.

How The Plastic Threat Operates

Research reveals how estrogen regulates gene expression,
Baylor College of Medicine, August 24, 2017.

The issue with BPA, the chemical that softens plastic, is that it "exhibit(s) estrogen-mimicking, hormone-like properties that raise concern about its suitability in some consumer products and food containers."

From Bisphenol A, Wiki

These properties disrupt gene expression during childhood development, which I believe has made a significant percentage of our population into Test Subjects for how varying doses of BPA during childhood development affects sexual development. Metrosexual, anyone? Trans-genderism? Dude-like chicks and chick-like dudes, none of which "know" what bathroom to use...

Man's Death Device
Real Headline:
Public Utilities were "Privatized"
and
The Public Was Fleeced

Scorching heat, rolling blackouts: The West is changing how it does summer,
Ars Technica, August 18, 2017.

The rolling blackouts, outrageours pricing, and most especially the politicians and corporate press making excuses for the rolling blackouts and outrageous pricing are children of the same mother: Corporate Ownership of "our" Politicians and our "Free" Press.

The real source of the rip-off pricing and crappy service from our electrical, telecom, and cable systems are that vast irresponsible growth paired with "deregulation" and "privatization," allowed and still drives the massive looting of the American People and the damaging of these fundamental elements of our most basic infrastructure, our regional and local grids, our telecom and cable systems.

This privitization of these, our most fundamental resources rips us off and drains us for accessing Life's Basic resources. Now the corporate parasites are targeting our water and educational infrastructures. Health care already provides them with an orgy of profits, while we live in the House of Pain.

Screwing us for the "basics" is a most fundamental compromise of our "General Welfare," wrought by the corruption and political bribery of a parasitic Corporate Class who have escaped the democratic and ethical restraints of our Constitution.

Nonetheless, they can't screw us for the basics if they can't bribe our politicians, and corrupt our political system. Bribery is currently completely legal, according to our politicians. We are empowered by our Constitution to regulate interstate markets through a democratic process. We do have a classic example of interstate commerece in the power markets, what we don't have is an example of effective democracy or democratic regulation.

Our democracy itself has been throughly compromised at the party and electoral levels by those very economic powers it is intended to regulate! That corruption, to state this as simply as possible, by the very forces to be regulated must be excised from our polity to properly regulate all of our interstate markets, not just the energy grid.

The wolves are not just guarding our hen houses, they are, and have been systamatically looting them for well over a century now, with the very brief exception of the Post WWII years, where democratic principals and practices were finally able to control and tax our corporate aristocracy sufficiently to finally build an American Middle Class.

The beginning of the end of the middle class in America started with the opening of our borders to a massive importation of legal and illegal labor while offshoring our manufacturing to China. The American Corporate Aristocracy has once again regained its total political and economic supremecy by once again opening the borders to limitless cheap labor, but this time has scored even greater profits by simultanously moving our manufacturing out from under the protection of our environmental and labor laws while simultanously crushing wages domestically by directly importing foreign labor.

The American middle class was asset-stripped by the shared policies of unlimited immigration and unlimited offshoring perpetuated by both corporate parties.

"American" business iterests discovered they could garner unimaginable profits by using both imported replacement labor here to break the American middle class wage, work, and benefit standards, while shipping the greatest value-added manufacturing jobs to the Chinese Commie State, who have used the wealth of our middle-class to bulid fleets, jets and even islands. All that has been done with the stolen wealth of American, and the world's middle classes.

That's what happened, and that great rush of irresponsible growth is what pushed our environment far beyond the tipping point. The vast political bribes to the political parties and their candidates is the glue that holds this whole thing together.

Stealing Water
The Low Price of Evil NOW
&
It's Unpayable Future

Southern Californians, here’s how much your water bills could rise to pay for Delta tunnels, Sac Bee, August 10, 2017.

Our corporate “leadership” will grow the population and their costs far beyond these initial estimates once you let these thieves directly tap-in to Northern California’s water. The act of building these tunnels itself is completely irresponsible, to support and expand the already grossly irresponsible growth that has already terminally damaged our state’s ecology, and our global climate.

Stop this wildly irresponsible population growth now. We need to improve the quality of life in our state, which the last fifty years of irresponsible domestic and international growth has smashed down to third world status. Oh, and the rich, our "corporate fascists," have used the "profits," of that growth, the stolen wealth of the American Middle Class, to make themselves richer and more powerful than the German nationalist Nazi fascists were...

"Mission Accomplished."

.. before their evil brought Germany and themselves down.

Sounds Familiar?

It should. They are the same people and the same systems, the only difference being that our American Corporate Fascists (Craps and Repugnants) have replaced the "pure blood" of German National Fascism with the pure greed of the international system of corporate fascism.

Our American Corporate Fascists are "multicultural," as we can see from the "rainbow flag" of multi-colored dictators, generals, emirs, and royal families that we support with our wealth, power, and our arms around the world.

Poisoned Water
TCP
"...the proposed standard is not economically feasible"

California’s Plan to Tackle a Carcinogen Widespread in Water,
Water Creepily, August 10, 2017,

Our corporate masters never pay the initial costs of doing business itself, being decent wages, benefits, and conditions, medicine and educations for the families, let alone for consequences of the crimes they commit while doing “business.”

Their system of criminal “state” subsidized labor has looted our country’s middle class and our environment to provide our corporate aristocracy with unprescented luxury, power, and profits, and they are not going to give-up these crimes, nor the luxury and power that come with them, let alone pay for their past damages, after working so hard to steal so much from so many.

That would void the point of these activities, to drain our wealth for their own power, wealth, and profits.

This is not a failure, it is "Mission Accomplished." Now we are going to pay the costs of reparing the damages from these crimes.

No Problem for Them: They have paid and are paying the Dems and Repugnants a lot of money for those dispicable profits, and the power and wealth that comes from cheating our country.

Let's deport all these traitors and invaders together, the corporate masters along with all their illegal slaves and all their bribed supporters in both the corporate parties.

That will fix the problem at its sources.

The cold, dead fingers of the corporate state must be peeled from the neck of our democracy. We will only have a healthy polity, people, and environment after corporate bribery is outlawed.

Organized Greed is the greatest clear and present danger to our country and environment, and must be shattered and scattered to the winds.

Recovery?
The Seasons Continue to Change

Incomplete drought recovery may be the new normal,
CARNEGIE INSTITUTION FOR SCIENCE, August 9, 2017.

Just like what we're seeing here & now. Continuing high temps continuing to stress trees receiving adequate water.

Interestingly enough, I wrote on July 27 that the wet, tropical Winter we just experienced did not actually end the "drought," in that the progression of heating and changes in weather patterns continued unabated through last Winter, but most importantly, that it was these new patterns themselves that swept huge amounts of tropical moisture North last Winter.

Kill More Birds Program

Feds to give states more flexibility in "protecting" wild bird,
SFCrate, August 8, 2017.

The quotes on "protecting" are mine, as they are really giving more flexibility in, "killing," not protecting wild birds. I don't think they were trying to be ironic, but they succeeded!

The corporate press' word selection is soooo predictable: Killing is Protecting, Poverty is Luxury, War is Peace... and so on. A citizen needs a "decoder ring" to make sense out of today's corporate press headlines.

Or have read Orwell extensively...

Rivers of Corrupt Political Money Flowing

California politicians lured by easy money, but somebody must eventually pay,
Sac Bee, August 3, 2017.

Oroville bond floating to cover disaster costs caused by corrupt political deferrals of Oroville's maintenance costs by its down-stream benefactors. Those "benefactors" bribe our politicians. Those politicians build them vast projects with our money, defer their maintenance costs to expand profits, then bail-out their bribers when things inevitably go south.

Corporate participation in politics must end.

Water

Democraps are Killing Us
So are the Repugnants

How Much Drinking Water Has California Lost to Oil Industry Waste? No One Knows,
KQED, August 3, 2017.

Lost? The correct question would be, "How Much Drinking Water has been ""Poisioned,"" or ""adulterated,"" by Oil Industry Waste before being allowed back into the chain of human consumption by corrupted politicians?

That would be the question.

Dems have destroyed the state of Califoreigner every way they possibly can. They, the Dems, are a fully-owned subsidairy of Corporate America. Ca Dems will do literally anything to our state and country to advance corporate profits, including the vast irresponsible growth that is the spearpoint of poisioning, killing, and simply defrauding and degrading both our Natural Environment and our Citizens.

So are the Repugnants, but they have had little power in Califoreigner for decades, so the Dems have shouldered the “heavy-lifting” required to advance corporate evil in Califoreigner.

This behavior will continue to damage every aspect of our environment and our ives until the ability of our corporate aristocracy to buy and sell politicians is ended.

This rate of change presages vast ecological changes on the way to significantly less global fertility.

Long Term "Asset-Stripping"

Loss of 350 miles of Great Plains streams causing changes in aquatic food web,
KANSAS STATE UNIVERSITY, August 2, 2017.

We’ve almost finished allowing corporate agriculture to export the Ogallala Aquifer. Our corporate program of “endless growth” is almost finished stripping all natural and human resources to the bone. Not just here in the US of A.

The abuse of the Ogallala is based on exactly the same type of political corruption that's allowed a few very rich folks and their corporations to fill their bank accounts, only at the cost of collapsing and polluting the water table under the San Jouquin Valley and the whole Mid-West. It's the same "program" applied in two different places.

This is greed-driven institutional corruption, bribery, draining our people and lands. They drain our land using armies of ultra-cheap state-subsidized illegal labor.

That's what's been going on for the last fifty years.

No problem here, move along. Our sustained policies of using industrial agriculture to rape our planet, drain its waters, pollute the skies, and filling the land with mega-cities filled will millions of greedy consumers is normal, acceptable behavior. Move along. Just business as usual in the Corporate Growth Machine of Death.

This is not Sparta.

This is Mordor.

The Great Diet Mystery
Starvation Longevity

It's not just what you eat, it's what's eating you,
FLORIDA ATLANTIC UNIVERSITY, August 2, 2017.

An amazing interelationship between environment (smell, taste, & work), the digestive system, cellular activity, and aging.

Now think about what “triggers,” or drives these relationships. The basic parameters are “calories in” and “calories out,” being the calorie demands of the environment (work) vs. calorie availability/input (fuel). These factors are under the control of the individual in most first-world countries, being how much they choose to eat and exercise.

Most modern Americans eat a lot and do very little work. This has proven to be deadly.

Now, “science” is making a big deal because folks who control their diets and work live longer. I refered to it as the, "The Great Diet Mystery," above.

Science is amazing. I sometimes wonder what I would do without it. I already knew the “moral” of this story before science explained the “mechanics” of why common sense and wisdom "work."

I see this situation, this relationship between food, activity, health, and aging as a classic “chicken and egg” situation. Neither outcome came "first," as one type of behavior almost always leads to the just and proper physical and metabolic consequences.

High Sierra Backpacking tunes the mind, body, and spirit for the most ideal balances between food and work, between action and consequence, and finally, I believe this personal enagement is necessary for healthy balance within every human, and between each of us & Nature Itself.
