Let's do some Basic Facts about this section of the trail...

The Upper to the Lower Summit City Creek Fords

Mileages

2.51 miles between fords.

1.19 miles from the Granite Flat to the lower ford.

Elevation

6560 to 5540 feet, or a difference of 1020 feet over 2.51 miles between the upper and lower fords.

Check out the miles and elevations page for this section: Carson Gap to Lake Alpine

 Terrain

Manzanita Maze.

Heading South of the Granite Flat a little over a mile South of the upper ford of Summit City Creek brings us onto an unshaded hot mountainside on a Southern exposure heading down mountain through sections of dense manzanita.

This exposed manzanita-covered terrain drops quickly into increasing temperatures as you lose elevation.

Manzanita terrain continues to the lower ford, where we again begin to encounter forest conditions.

See the trail guide page, The Granite Flat Campsite to Lower Summit City Creek ford, for more details.
