Starting a backpacking trip from Kennedy Meadows Pack Station on September 1, 2010. When the horses get a bit riled up, it's always good to get 'em out to run around a bit. It always works for me.

September Open Thread: High Sierra Trail Condition Reports
Trip Dates: Hiking Kennedy Meadows South to Glen Aulin High Sierra Camp between September 2 and September 5. Spent the 5th and the 6th visiting Erin Ander's Yosemite NP Trail Crew, which was established near Glen Aulin. I camped at the Tuolumne Meadow's Backpacker camp on the evening of the 7th, and easily hitched home on the 8th.
What follows is the trip plan that I am executing tomorrow. It is actually my safety report that I sent to a trusted individual who I will contact at my resupply point and at the end of the trip. If I do not report in a timely fashion, they will report this to the proper authorities.
This report includes route and time estimates for each leg of this two-part trip between Rodriquez Flat, on the Eastern Sierra Flank above the town of Walker Ca, on Hwy 395, to Tuolumne Meadows, in Yosemite National Park.
Looking South down at the Kennedy Canyon trail junction from the Southern Flank of Levitt Peak.
Southbound backpackers have the option of continuing South, over Big Sam into the Emigrant Basin. For backpackers continuing South to Tuolumne Meadows, you will cross the Emigrant Basin to enter Yosemite through Bond Pass, below which you will rejoin the Pacific Crest Trail in Jack Main Canyon. Let's check out the maps and trail guide.
